Norwegian storyteller and author, Anne Elisabeth Skogen has published a new book entitled Over Havet Til Amerika (Across the ocean to America). Accompanied by wonderful illustrations, the children’s book tells the story of the Slooper’s voyage from Stavanger to New York in 1825. Told through the eyes of 9-year old Nils who is traveling with his parents and siblings, the story takes on a life of it’s own and serves as a reminder of the fantastic voyage that resulted in the first organized emigration from Norway to America and ultimately in over 800,000 Norwegians following in their wake during the next 100 years.

So much more than just children’s book. Both young and old will enjoy reading Over Havet Til Amerika. Currently the book is only published in Norwegian, but Anne Elisabeth is working on an english translation that should be finished soon. We will update you when the english translation is available.
